Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Mr Zhang is a highly accomplished senior executive in the Chinese mining industry. He has a PHD in Mining Engineering and has held various senior positions for Ansteel’s Iron Ore operations, including General Manager of Qi Da Shan Iron Ore Operations and Deputy General Manager of Qi Da Shan Processing Plant.
He was appointed as Vice President of Ansteel Mining Group in 2015 and has been working for China’s Ansteel Mining Group for more than 30 years.
Mr Zhang was appointed as CEO of Karara Mining in October 2015.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
General Manager - Commercial & IT
Mr Li is a highly accomplished senior manager in the Chinese and Australian finance industry with extensive financial and accounting experience, including 12 years’ experience at Ansteel, a Chinese leading steel company and more than 7 years’ experience in Australia. He has an excellent understanding of the multi–cultured business operation and international project financing business.
Mr Li has a degree in Accounting and has held various managerial positions both in China and Australia, including Treasurer and Management Accounting Manager of Karara Mining Ltd and Treasury Manager of Angang Steel Co., Ltd.
General Manager – Operations and Planning
Xianglin Cheng has extensive technical experience and a deep knowledge of Karara’s ore body and operations.
Mr Cheng graduated with a Master’s Degree of Science in 1991 from the Mining Department of North-eastern College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in 1983 from the Geological Department of Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
General Manager - Processing
Mr Martins joined Karara in September 2013. He is a high-performance senior manager with 30 years local and international experience within the mining industry. Respected as a motivational leader and proponent of accountability, he develops high-performance teams, workforce capability and workplace safety through effective organisational design and strategic change leadership. His expertise in whole-of-site management, in-depth understanding of complex mining systems and proven ability in workforce optimisation makes him an asset to Karara. Mr Martins was appointed as KML’s Registered Manager in February 2016.
General Manager – Operational Excellence
Mr Zhou is a highly regarded mineral processing expert in the Chinese mining industry. He has extensive professional technical knowledge and many years of experience in providing operational technical services, including overseeing commissioning of processing plants for Ansteel and others across China, e.g. TISCO’s Yuanjiacun iron ore project and Hainan Haigang’s Shilu iron ore project.
He was previously the Vice Director for Ansteel Mining & Engineering Corporation specialising in mining technical research and consulting, and has been working for China’s Ansteel Mining Group for 30 years.
He joined Karara in September 2013 as Technical Design Manager responsible for the technical commissioning of the Karara Project. In November 2015 he was appointed as General Manager – Production & Contractor Performance.
General Manager – HR, HSE and Communities
Patrick Bourke is a recognised and well-regarded leader in the mining industry. He has a background in geology and extensive experience in various mining, exploration, mining services and oil and gas companies including Woodside Energy Ltd, WesTrac Pty Ltd, Newcrest Mining Ltd and Rio Tinto. He has worked across Australia in a range of operational and executive roles and has international experience in PNG, China, the UK and Canada.
Christopher S. Gerrard joined Karara in May 2010 as Company Secretary. Mr Gerrard is a member of KML’s senior leadership team and participates in the operational management and strategic planning of the company. He provides leadership for the company’s legal and regulatory affairs, ethics and compliance programmes and corporate governance activities including litigation, contractual, fiscal, property and legislative issues.
Prior to joining KML, Mr Gerrard served as general counsel of Austal Limited, an ASX-listed global ship builder and defence prime contractor with industry leading capabilities in development of defence and commercial vessel platforms.
Mr Gerrard has served in a variety of senior executive, leadership and legal positions in government service and the private sector. He graduated from the Australian National University with honours degrees in Law and Economics and began his career as an Associate for Justice RJA Franki of the Federal Court of Australia. Mr Gerrard is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Australia and is a Certificated Member of the Governance Institute of Australia.
